AUTHOR BIO
I grew up in the streets, schools, playgrounds, railroad tracks, and about “18 years later,” the taverns of Somerville.
My father died when I was about 4 … and my mother lived on Cross St, downstairs from my grandmother, grandfather, and one of my five Uncles. My grandparents and a great-grandparent being from Gaeta, Italy.
They had lived only a few blocks from Harvard AND MIT… and Mass General Hospital. But had to move when the Brick Bottom area was razed and a very large industrial incinerator and processes center was built.
My mother remarried my step-father, a man from PEI, who knew a lot about eggs, steam locomotives, rail roads, masonic matters… They are the parents to my bro and sis, (step, intentionally left out).
Balls were so much part of life… and baseballs were special. A tragic accident occurred (not to me) and a player was needed to fill his roster spot on the Glen Park Little League team, and it was me who filled the spot.
But the World’s First Medical achievement is the real story. First time ANY WHERE IN THE ENTIRE WORLD the reattachment of a severed limb.
JUST BECAUSE I GREW UP near AND WENT TO SCHOOL WITH THE KIDS OF THE Winter Hill Gang… I WAS NEVER APART OF ANYTHING ILLEGAL. So, it must have been somebody else you’re thinking about. Unless you’re thinking of the bets on the Slow Pitch Men’s Baseball Games … and the funny story that followed when a guy 5 years older 40 pounds bigger and much taller came over to me… and shaking and deeply apologetic… .and pushed the two dollars for the bet into my hand then ran away… Apparently, my coach/manager that day heard that “the other guy was not going to pay the bet.” My coach/manager that day was one of the “fathers” of the kids of the Winter Hill Gang.. And I think that when he heard… he might have asked “why are you NOT going to pay” the kid on my team? (get it?)
I graduated from UMass Amherst with a BBA, then sold Burroughs Computers for two years in Western, Mass. Came back to Somerville and got an MBA from Suffolk U, it was the only time in my life that I took a bus to school. Got back into Computers after getting an MBA… but this time “computer components” with a technical slant to the job. (I was a one-eyed Jack, in the land of the blind,)
Migrated from Tech Sale to Tech Joint marketing in high tech supply chains. (Sales channel is how it was referred to… like a wholesaler, a bit)
Started and ran a Marketing Services business that operated for 14 years… and had a few articles published in the Industry Journals and with clients in counties including, England, France, Italy, and South Korea… and all across the U. S.
